When it comes to allowing someone near your mouth with sharp instruments you really want to make sure that he, or she, is the most trained and experienced periodontist possible. While your dentist is the absolute right person to visit every 6 to 9 months, there are some instances when you need someone who has additional training and experience in a specific area of dental care. Periodontist: One step beyond
A dentist and a periodontist have a very similar path to their education and qualifications. They both must study and earn a license to practice general dentistry but those who wish to do so can pursue one of 9 dental specialties recognized by The Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC), including Endodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, and Periodontics.
These specializations require extensive accredited training and consistent training updates to maintain.
The team at Mississauga-based Periodontal Associates is not only highly trained but committed to ongoing training and education. Dr. Steven Gangbar stays involved in education as staff at the Faculty of Dentistry, at the University Of Toronto as a Clinical Instructor in Periodontics. Dr. Quyen Su received her Masters in Periodontology degree at the University of Toronto and attends regular international training conferences. Dr. Naheed Mohamed has his own particular interests in minimally invasive approaches to surgery after completing his residency at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals in Cleveland. Dr. Leo Gerczuk graduated from McGill University, Faculty of Dentistry and then enrolled in a Postgraduate Periodontal Program at Boston University, School of Graduate Dentistry. And finally, Dr. Leonard Diamond, past president of the Halton-Peel Dental Association, is on staff in the postgraduate department of dentistry at the University of Toronto, where he teaches periodontics and implant dentistry.
